chromid™ CarBa is a selective chromogenic medium for the screening of carbapenemase producing enterobacteriacae in the patients who are chronic carriers or in patients at risk.
chromid CarBa agar consists of a nutrient base combining different peptones, three chromogenic substrates which enable the detection of activities of specific metabolic enzymes for E. coli, the KesC group consisting of Klebsiella, Enterobacter, Serratia and Citrobacter, and finally Proteae in 18–24 hours of incubation. a proprietary mixture of antibiotics favouring the selective growth of carbapenemase producing enterobacteriacae. the media has been shown to have a sensitivity of 97% and a specificity of 99%.
